she did not need much

“She did not need much, wanted very little. A kind word, sincerity, fresh air, clean water, a garden, kisses, books to read, sheltering arms, a cozy bed, and to love and be loved in return.”

– Starra Neely Blade

what i’m cooking this weekend

well, this is what i’m *hopefully* making this weekend. my brother-in-law is helping the mister install some gorgeous hardwood floors, so i get to play with my one-year-old niece (the happiest little girl in the world, seriously). not sure how much i will accomplish with her running around being happily adorable (and adorably happy) but hopefully most of it.

honey oat whole wheat bread

homemade venison broth/stock

italian wedding soup

wild rice and mushroom soup

a quiet secluded life

“A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor — such is my idea of happiness.”

paradise + home

the mister and I just spent ten beautiful days here

we came home to cool, midwest fall air.

sometimes i forget just how beautiful the midwest can be, especially when i’m in paradise.

it is so good to be home.
